The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

In this report we will concentrate on the "problems" seen by customers with their equipment. We see these kinds of things all the time here in the shop, and hopefully this information will save you an unnecessary trip to the shop.

The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

Problem # 1: Can't get channels above channel 13 Your TV is in the "air" mode. To remedy this problem, you must either autoprogram your TV, or set your unit to the cable mode in the menu.

Problem # 2: Channels won't change, can only get 1 channel This is similar to problem #1. Your TV needs to be autoprogrammed again using the menu.

Problem # 3: TV has a funny looking menu, looks like an ad This unit is in what is called the "demo" mode. Contact the manufacturer and if they are of no help, call us and we'll be happy to walk you through the process of getting rid of it.

Problem # 4: There's a black box blocking the picture We see this all the time. You TV has been accidentally placed into the closed caption mode. To clear this problem, bring up the menu and turn the closed captions off.

Problem # 5: I can't view certain channels on my TV This is usually a password or parental lock problem. If you have forgotten your password, you may be able to access the menu by using the factory default password that you'll find in your owner's manual. If this doesn't work, then you may have to contact the manufacturer for help.

Problem # 6: I don't have sound on some channels, spanish or the weather report on others This is another one we see a lot of. You unit is in the SAP or separate audio program mode. Access the menu and set the audio to normal, standard, or stereo.

Problem # 7: My TV just quit working This could indeed be a real problem, but maybe not. If you have cats or small dogs, do they hang out behind the TV a lot? If so, check and see if they have damaged the power cord or pulled it just far enough out of the wall to allow it to lose contact with the wall outlet. If this is not the case, carefully move the set out from the wall and smell the carpets and look at the back of the set for signs of wetness. If you find this, your pet is urinating into the set and has caused your unit to shut down. Unplug it and take it to the shop as soon as you can.

Problem # 8: No picture, all I get is snow The first thing to do here is to verify that everything is hooked up properly, and that the signal source you want to watch hasn't been changed. If you find no problem here, then you may have a cable box problem, or your satellite provider is down. Contact your company for details on any problem you might be having and don't forget to log on to their website for current information if you can't get through by phone.

Problem # 9: My remote doesn't work verify this by checking to see if you can turn on the set with the panel mounted power button. If this works and the set operates normally, then all you may need to do is change the batteries in the remote to restore operation.

Problem # 10: My TV doesn't work right since my son/daughter started playing with it Kids seem to have a real understanding of electronic gear, and some of them (my son included) love to monkey around with the menus. Some of them will even add their own passwords and setup their own access codes. It's rare that they can do any real harm so make sure that they tell you what they've done so you'll be able to enjoy your own programs.

I hope this list of the things we see everyday will help you to enjoy you TV a lot more, and save you money and time. Thank you and have a great day!

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

When working in a high heat environMent - including gas welding and cutting, electric arc welding, and carbon arcing or plasma arc cutting - you are exposed to a number of hazards, specifically:

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Personal Protective Equipment For Hot Work

Molten metal, Toxic gases, fumes, and vapors Harmful radiation Excessive noise Electrical shock Fire hazards

Personal Protective EquipMent is an important step in protecting against these hazards (and in most situations, is an OSHA requireMent). The type of work being performed will dictate the safety gear that needs to be worn. However, there are five categories of equipMent that should be considered when doing all hot work.

Respirators: Respirators provide protection from the inhalation of harmful gases, fumes, and vapors. Respiratory protection needs to be considered when hot work is performed in confined or enclosed spaces. Air-purifying respirators should be worn when doing hot work on surfaces containing lead, cadmium, or mercury. Supplied Air respirators (air-line respirators) should be used when hot work is performed on beryllium. Respirators may also be necessary when working on surfaces covered with toxic substances, such as solvents or paints, since the high temperatures involved may vaporize these materials. Eye protection: Using appropriate eye protection is important to protect your eyes from both ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. Welding, cutting, and burning goggles which are shaded are used to protect from UV and IR radiation. To protect your face from flying materials such as slag, a face shield should be used in conjunction with goggles. Welding helmets with shaded glass viewing ports are used during carbon arc welding to protect the face, neck, and eyes from UV and IR radiation. When selecting eye protection for hot work, it is very important to ensure that the proper lens shading is used for the work performed. (And remember that anyone working or standing near the work area should also wear appropriate protective eyewear.) Protective Clothing: Hot work (obviously) produces heat, creating a burn risk. Protective Clothing helps to reduce the chance of burns from sparks and slag. For high temperatures, the best protective Clothing is leather or fire retardant garments. When wearing leather or fire retardant garments, it's important to remember that the protection they offer will be compromised if they are soiled with oil, grease, solvents, or other flammable or combustible substances or if they are in poor condition (holes, fraying, etc.). Pants should not have cuffs. Also, if garments have open pockets, the pockets need to be Velcroed or taped shut to prevent sparks or slag from entering. Foot protection: Heavy objects (metal plates, for example) and falling sparks and slag can cause foot injuries. High-top leather boots or low-top leather boots in conjunction with leather spats provide protection from sparks and slag. In order to protect toes from heavy objects that are dropped, the boots should be safety (steel-toe) boots. Hand and Wrist protection: Hand and Wrist protection are also important PPE because high temperature tasks expose your hands to cuts and burns (both from heat and UV or IR radiation). Leather welding gloves generally provide the necessary protection during hot work. Leather gloves also provide a degree of cut resistance-an important factor when handling sheets of metal or other sharp materials. For carbon arc welding, long-cuffed leather gloves are most appropriate, and for welding, cutting, or burning, short-cuffed welding gloves. Like protective clothing, in order to provide adequate protection, leather welding gloves need to be in good repair and free from flammable and combustible materials such as oils, grease, and solvents.
Other PPE to Consider

Other PPE that should be considered depending on the task and work area including:

Hearing protection for environments with very loud intermittent noise or persistent loud noises. Head protection (i.e., a hard hat) for work areas where there are potential overhead hazards from falling objects or materials. Personal floatation devices when working in an area where there is potential for falling into the water. Fall protection systems such as positioning systems or personal fall arrest systems for work performed at heights.

Computer Won't Shut Down - How to Fix the Computer Shutdown Problem - Help!

Many people have no alternative but to press the power switch to shut it down by force, when their Computers run into this trouble. Force shutdown could bring serious consequences to your computer and system. It might lead to severe problems including memory and hard drive failure, system crash and so on.

But how to fix the problem? To resolve this troublesome problem, we must go to the root of cause. No matter in the earlier version of Windows system or latest Windows 7, XP and Vista, registry always plays the role of control center. It controls all the system processes like startup, shutdown, restart and so on. Moreover, it also has a great effect on computer performance.

To fix the problem, you will need to scan and repAir the errors in your Windows registry. Fixing the registry errors will not only resolve the annoying problem but also help you improve your PC performance.

Launching the Tablet Surface From Microsoft

Launching the Tablet Surface From Microsoft

Microsoft is not known to give great media launches unlike the folks over at Apple. However, this time, their launch of their newest product, the Surface, was a great one. Microsoft was able to live up to the buzz that it created days before this event. People, especially those who sell old iPad for a business were intrigued as to what the Surface would be. The question on everyone's mind before that was if this tablet PC would finally be the one to give Apple's iPad the challenge that it needs.

So far, it's still iPad who is leading the market in terms of tablet PC sales. Samsung was able to shake things up a little bit with the introduction of their Galaxy Tab. However, it was still not enough to topple the iPad's position on top. Let's startdissecting the Surface and see if it can indeed give your iPad the inspiring challenge.

For starters, there are two variants to this tablet PC. For people selling iPad 1, having a choice can be good because it gives the buyer an option especially when money is an issue during the purchase. Of course, one model would be cheaper than the other but might be less powerful. If the buyer does not really care as he just wants to use it for browsing, reading emails, Watching movies or playing simple games, then the lower end version might satisfy his needs.

Surface Basic, as it is called, is thinner and lighter. It is only 9.3 mm thin and weighs 1.5 pounds. The casing is made of vapor-deposited magnesium (PVD) and it already includes a built-in kickstand. Inside, it ispowered by an ARM chipset and has Windows RT as its operating system. The Windows RT is said to be perfect for tablet PCs because it consumes less power making the battery of the tablet PC last longer. The screen's real estate size is 10.6 inches with a ClearType HD Display. However, there is still no final word as to the screen's resolution. It is available in 32 GB and 64 GB versions.

The second variant is called the Surface Pro. As the name suggests, this variant is for those who are serious about their electronic gadgets and do not just see them as a multimedia portal. People who want to use it for work will be able to appreciate the power and efficiency of this tablet. It is still at 10.6 inches however the ClearType is display "Full HD" already. It is powered by Intel's22nm Ivy Bridge chip and will run on Windows 8. It is definitely more powerful than the basic version and more like a very thin laptops. It is heavier and thicker at 1.9 pounds at 13.5 mm. It has the same magnesium case with a built in kickstand like the Basic. 64 GB and 128 GB will be the variants for this one.

With that said, Microsoft however did not disclose the final price of the Surface. It might be a bit cheaper than the iPad, which is a welcome thought for those who are looking to shift to a new one and sell old iPad. Also, there is no exact date as to when it will be available for purchase. Everything remains to be seen until the Surface comes out and becomes available on the market.
